Question

Pension Income

I have Turbotax Premier and received pension income on a 1099-R.  This is taxable for Federal but not in PA where I reside.  The current TT version is considering the income as a non-qualified plan, so it is shown as taxable in PA on my forms.  When I try to answer a question that it is a qualified plan, the program doesn't accept the entry and moves to the next question without making the change to a qualified plan.  Does anyone have advise on how to correct this for my current PA State Return?

Thanks

You can change the coding in the Pennsylvania section to tell TurboTax that your pension is not taxable.

    Here's how:

    1. Start Pennsylvania
    2. Continue to What kind of retirement income do you have from Pennsylvania?
    3. Select I'm eligible, plan's eligible (no PA tax)

Distributions from an eligible Pennsylvania retirement plan is not taxable if you met the plan requirements (the age and/or years of service required by the plan) for retirement, and retired after meeting those requirements.

Refer to How do I know if the amount on my 1099R (1099-R) is taxable on my PA Personal Income Tax Return?
