If your only income was Social Security you can use a trick the IRS allows in order to e-file.  Enter $1 of interest income, then it should let you e-file.

No. There are several reasons you cannot e-file your return. Returns can't be e-filed if:

Returns can't be e-filed if they:

    • Contain override
    • Have no taxable income
    • Contain a W-2 where box 1 is blank or the box 16 amount is greater than the box 1 amount
    • Contain IRS forms or schedules not on the accepted Forms or Schedule List
    • Contain non-final forms
    • Are for prior-year or amended return.

You should be able to print, sign and mail your state return.

Your state might not require filing a state return to claim your Homestead Credit.
