To claim business expenses on no income yet, how can I clear the forced EIN/SSN of payor in Self-Emp version?

My return is otherwise ready, but I'm forced to fix an entry of EIN/SSN of who paid me in order to claim business expenses. I haven't been paid yet but IRS allows expenses on no income. How do I drive TT to accept no payor/income?

You said, "entry of EIN/SSN of who paid me", but also that you were never paid. Did you receive a 1099-NEC? Did you actually earn money in the business? From where did you get the EIN?

Yes, the IRS allows you to take expenses, even if you had no income. If you included a false EIN because you thought that was the only way you could include expenses, delete the form and begin again. Do not say you received a 1099-NEC if you didn't.

Here's the general procedure for viewing the forms list and deleting unwanted forms, schedules, and worksheets in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

This worked to clear the issue, thank you! I had not selected that I received a 1099— I tried every variation otherwise though, so this appears to be a glitch in the programming that it doesn't clear/adapt the forms when you change selections there. Thanks again!
