Question

We already filed personal taxes for 2022. We received a 1099-NEC for a LLC my husband is principal for. How do we file this separate from personal taxes?

This 1099-NEC is not in our names - it is in the LLC name.

We need some additional information.  Is your spouse the owner/member of the LLC?  How is the LLC organized for tax purposes?  For example, is it a partnership in which case the LLC may have to issue a Schedule K-1?  To better understand your tax situation, we just need some additional information about your spouse's role in the LLC and whether the 1099-NEC represents compensation for services performed by you or your spouse or both.

Leaving aside for the moment the issue about the 1099-NEC, because you have already filed your return, if you need to make adjustments to that already filed return, such as to add the 1099-NEC, you will need to wait until your filed return has been accepted by the IRS.  You can amend a return only after it has been filed and accepted by the IRS.  E-filed returns are considered filed when you have received notice from the government that your return has been accepted.  If your return has been rejected, it is not considered filed.

Mailed returns are considered filed the date you post your return.

If you need to amend your return, when the time is right to amend, you can access your previously filed return, in TurboTax online, from the TurboTax home page.  Scroll down the screen to the section Your tax return & documents.  If you have used TurboTax CD/download, then you can amend your previously filed return by selecting Other Tax Situations, and then scroll down to Other Tax Forms
