What happens if you are issued hey 1099-nec and it should have been a 1099 miscellaneous free gifts?

Part of Wayfair LLC promotional giveaway called tried-and-true, received a 1099 miscellaneous for free merchandise wholesale value last year this year received a 1099 NEC with the amount value of the furniture I received in box 1 this cannot be correct I am not self-employed. I have tried in vain to contact Wayfair. Do I file the NEC and hope for the best?

Yes, but allow me to list the proper steps for you to claim this as other income and not self-employment. 

  1. Go to federal>income and expenses>all income>>show more 
  2. Other common income> Start
  3. Form 1099-NEC,>start
  4. After entering the 1099NEC, it will ask the reason for it, give a reason that's not business related.
  5. Does one of these uncommon situations apply say This is not money earned as an employee or self-employed individual, it is from a sporadic activity or hobby (this is not common).
  6.  This will report as other income on line 8Z in Schedule 1 and not as self employed income.
