Question

Why am I being asked to report self-employment income from my own business a second time?

I already completed the 1040 with all of my income information. Now I am being asked about 1099 income and I don't understand why.

How did you initially enter your income? Did you go to Schedule C and enter it as 1099-NEC or cash? Did you indicate that you had a 1099-NEC but accidentally put it on the cash line?

If any information you initially entered into the program does not agree with what you actually did, you will get an error.

If you are wanting to find the section within TurboTax where you either enter or have entered your self-employment income and expenses which will be reported on Schedule C of your tax return, do the following steps:

  1. After signing into TurboTax, select "Take Me to My Return"
  2. Type "Schedule C" in the search field at the top right hand of the screen.
  3. Select "Jump To Schedule C" and you will be brought to the section of TurboTax where you can enter or have entered your business income and expense information.

Hello,

Thank you for your response! I do not know how this information got here. It seems to have imported from 2020 and is asking me to review and update it. My massage business is operated on a cash basis, so I have never had a 1099 of any sort, that I know of. I have always just filled out a 1040 with accompanying schedules via the online tax preparation software, following along and inputting numbers when asked to, reading the little (?) when I don't understand something.
