Question

I have downloaded all my T5008 information from CRA. There was no DATE information (box 14 is blank). Do I need to enter this manually or is there an easier way?

Is the date information required?

Yes, you will need to enter dates manually if they weren’t filled in by Auto-Fill.

The 2024 T5008 requires a date of disposition due to the new capital gains rate that was supposed to apply to Capital Gains after June 24, 2024. Even though the new capital gains rate is not going into effect this year, the requirement is still there.

Hi.  Thanks for the response.  I was hoping there is an easier way as there are at least 100 entries.  Do you have any idea why this info is omitted in the download?

To verify that information, you can always get in touch with the issuer. Occasionally, this information is left out without any sound justification.

I didn't have a 'date of disposition' for the capital gains entres because I never cashed them in (I think this is what that means). Does anyone have an intel on this? I get an error message if I leave it blank. Thanks!

@abbykaros Regardless of whether you sold securities & took the cash, or used to proceeds to immediately invest in something else, you have a disposition. and you'll need to enter a date.
