Question

I work as a auto technician and wear a uniform. The company pays half of the cleaning bill and I pay the rest. Can I claim my portion on my taxes.

Unfortunately, you cannot claim a uniform cleaning bill as employment expenses. Also, the amount paid by your employer for the cleaning bill is not a taxable income for you.

As per Canada Revenue Agency (CRA): You cannot deduct the cost of special clothing you wear or have to wear for your work.

However, you can claim The Canada Employment Amount Tax Credit. This credit is designed to cover everyday expenses associated with having a job. The maximum amount of this credit in 2021 is $1257.
