All versions of TurboTax can be used if you have T4 and Self-Employment income, including Standard and Free. We’d recommend trying TurboTax Self-Employed though; it has expert step-by-step guidance for self-employment income and expenses. You can always start in TurboTax Standard and then if as you go, you’d think you need more help, you can easily upgrade to TurboTax Self-Employed.

I have the same situation as the original post of this question, and I will use the Self-Employed version. However, please clarify: I need the Self-Employed version but my spouse doesn't. If I select "Prepare your returns together" - does that mean that I will be charged the fee for Self-Employed 2x ?

Turbotax is saying that it is beneficial to do the returns together but the pricing isn't clear.

Yes, if you and your spouse NETFILE your returns together using TurboTax Self-Employed, you will be charged the fee for each return.  However, you do have the option of preparing both returns together but only NETFILING yours.  You could then use a different version of TurboTax to prepare and NETFILE your spouse's return.
