I live fulltime in NC but have some income I must report as a non-resident in CA.  What about my Social Security payments that have nothing to do with CA.  Can I exclude SS from California non-resident return?

Yes, you can exclude your social security income from the California return for two reasons. 1) Only your California sourced income needs to be reported on your California return. 2) California doesn't tax social security benefits, so even if it were California sourced it wouldn't be included on the return.
