Yes, you can remove your solar and wind energy credit carryover from your NY return.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on State on the left-hand side.
  3. Continue through the return.
  4. On the page, Take a look at New York credits and taxes, scroll down to Unused Solar Energy Credit Carryover from Prior Years.
  5. Delete the unused credit on the page Credit Carryover Earned in Prior Years

How do I delete that page?

Try going into Tax tools (left of the screen), Tools and then "delete a form." Look for form 5695 and delete it.

Yes. I made the mistake of entering 0’s for these forms that did not apply to me instead of leaving it blank. Go to state taxes, then other-tax credits. Then go to non/refundable credits and make sure the boxes do not have a value. It should be left blank. I also deleted form IT-255, the form for solar and wind energy credit, in the tools section from the drop down menu on upper left of screen.

THIS IS WHAT WORKED: Copied from another user a couple of years ago:

This finally worked!!  Thanks so much!  If you have an on-line version of Turbotax, you can't see lines so you have to go to the section "Other Tax Credits" then "Non-Refundable Credits".  After you get to that section, make sure those boxes are blank!  I had zeros in both boxes.
