You cannot.  The 5 Federal e-file is a IRS limit.   State cannot be e-filed if Federal is not first e-filed and accepted.

NY does not require e-file if your software does not support it and in this case your software does not.

I have the same issue. So do I have to buy another copy of Turbo Tax and open the tax return in it? Or can I simply mail the New York State tax return from a print out even though it says it is required to file when using tax software?

The 5 e-file limit is a limit set by the IRS for customer level filing.  It is not set by TurboTax, therefore buying another TurboTax software will not fix the issue.  The only way to e-file would be to have a professional software or got to a professional to file the return.
