Question

For California, does cool roof have any tax benefits?

I replaced our 30-year old non-cool roof with the Owens Corning Duration Cool Roof last year. I know there’s no benefit in federal taxes but what about California state taxes? Thank you.

No. There is no energy credit for any roofing except for solar roofing tiles and shingles. Additionally, California does not offer direct state tax benefits for installing a cool roof.

However, you might be eligible for rebates or incentives through local programs or utility companies. For example, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) provides rebates for cool roof installations, and other local initiatives may have similar programs.

You can explore resources like the Cool California Funding Wizard to find grants, incentives, or rebates in your area. It's worth checking with your local government or utility provider to see if they offer any specific programs for energy-efficient upgrades like cool roofs
