Head of Household question

Hello!

 

I am filing my own taxes and I wanted to know in order for me to file as head of household would my name HAVE to be on the house or mortgage? I paid majority of the household expenses last year and I have a qualifying dependent.

Head of household filing status has nothing to do with home ownership or whether your name is on a mortgage.

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
