Question

Hello. I am unable to find section to enter my 529 contributions to my sons plan as those are tax deductible in Illinois .Can someone please guide me here? Thanks a lot.

    Yes, you just have to go through the program answering questions until you reach the income that is handled differently.

     

    Here are the steps for a direct link in TurboTax Online/Mobile:

    1. Be sure you are logged in to TurboTax
    2. Then click on this link to the Illinois 529 contribution
    3. Continue through and answer the questions.

    Hello. This does not work as the system is asking if I was the beneficiary, which is not true. I am the one contributing to the 529 plan on behalf of my children. I also did not receive form 1099-Q for distributions. Once I select "No" for both, I am unable to proceed further to enter by actual contributions.

    It SOUNDS like the plan administrator is applying the contribution as a return of the distribution. 

    If you took a distribution but did not get Form 1099-Q, and you also put money INTO the account, the contribution may not qualify. 

    I suggest you ask the plan administrator how they reported the distribution and contribution.
