Question

I lived in CA in Q1 & MN Q2-Q4. For ex. I made $1/mo, Turbotax is correctly saying $3 in CA, but it is saying I earned the full $12 in MN & I can't get it to say $9. Help

I can't get Turbotax to say I made $9, it's considering the full year income. I have it saying I am a part year resident and I entered how much money was earned in MN, but for some reason its still taking the full amount.

Your tax is determined by the percentage of your income that is assignable to Minnesota, so you will see your total income but the amount that is taxed is the Minnesota income only.  See M1NR.

For the portion of the year you are a Minnesota resident, you are taxed on income you receive inside and outside of Minnesota. When you live in Minnesota but work in another state, Minnesota taxes your out-of-state income.  If another state taxes the same income that Minnesota taxes, you may qualify for a credit on taxes paid to the other state.
