Question

I lived in KY, then FL for 4 months and received FL income for those 4 months, now back in KY receiving KY income

I began 2024 as a KY resident, I moved to FL for a new job and received FL income (no state income tax) for the 4 months that I lived there. I moved back to KY and have received KY income (with state income tax) ever since, ending 2024 in KY. How do I file this?

When you lived in Florida, were you a Florida resident?  If so, you will file a part-year resident tax return for Kentucky and TurboTax will guide you through allocating your income for Kentucky.

If you've already entered your personal information, review your entries to help ensure that TurboTax will help you create the correct part-year tax returns.

    1. Open TurboTax and select My Info
    2. Personal profile summary screen will pop up
    3. Select Revisit by your address
    4. Scroll through the screens to help ensure that you have the correct answers for your state of residence and choose that you live in another state. A new section will appear asking for your previous state of residence. Select the other state that you live in.
    5. Scroll down to Other State Income and select Edit
    6. Check your answer for Did you make money in any other states? Answer the questions and select Continue.

After you complete your federal tax return and you move to the State Taxes sections, your Kentucky part-year state return will be listed.

Please visit this TurboTax Help articles How do I file a part-year state return? and How do I allocate (split) income for a part-year state return? for further explanation.
