I’m helping my aunt with her taxes and she was getting money back for federal & state about $450 for each But I put something in overpayment & I can’t find where to fix

Where do I change the overpayment? That is what changed her state taxes to only getting five dollars back instead of about $450 again

Which state? The best thing to do is to go back through the entire interview questions. You can also delete and readd the state if you are using the online version and then go back through and re-enter all of the information which most of it will transfer from federal.

If you are using the desktop version you can switch to forms mode and search the state forms for the overpayment amount you entered.

Massachusetts. She gets a 1099R for her pension and then Social Security so she always gets money back and I had it right and then somewhere it asked me about last year‘s taxes and now it’s saying it’s an overpayment and she’s only getting five dollars for state so I’m just gonna delete everything and redo it because she lives pretty far from me and doesn’t know how to text message and take pictures of it. Long story so I’m gonna hopefully get my cousin to take screenshots of everything so I can just upload it and fix it myself because I do it every year for her and we use the free addition because she always gets money back. if I need any other help, I might write you back tomorrow. I really appreciate it

An overpayment is your refund. Sounds like you told it to keep your refund and apply it as an estimated payment to next year. Did you file it yet? If not then go through the State tab again, probably near the end and look for that screen again to change it. Change it to No and delete the amount.

Tomorrow, I’m just gonna redo everything and hopefully have pictures of her taxes and if I do have any other questions, I’ll write you back but I’m getting in the car to go food shopping so I appreciate everything.
