I think I am eligible for this deduction. I didn't work in indiana in 2024, but I did receive my last paycheck within the first week of january from my last day on december 31, 2023 for roughly $800. But when i tried to file them, something was flagged. It said that I couldn't have worked 0 days in 2024 and still made money. What do I do in this situation?

Can you provide some more details?   Did you pay Indiana tax on your W-2 that you are trying to get a refund for?

Do I need to file more than one state return?

Do I need to file a return for an out of state employer?

Yes I did pay Indiana tax on my W-2 and I am just trying to put in all of my tax information I received. In 2023 I was a michigan resident in 2023 and worked full time in Elkhart, Indiana until December 31st.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

You are going to need to put 1 day for the program to realize you were not a resident. The next screen asks for county of employment. Scroll to the bottom and select an out of state option.

The program and worksheets are not part of your tax return. Only the actual tax forms go to the governments. If you must enter days, you could enter 1 day to get through the program. As long as the actual tax form is correct, working around the program to get your forms correct, is fine.

Take a look at your tax forms and make sure those are correct. You notice, number of days is not on the actual tax form. To see your forms:
