NY state IT-272 and IT-196 not updated from College Tuition Qualified Expenses Optimization Worksheet

When I enter info into the College Tuition Qualified Expenses Optimization Worksheet, it calculates a refund amount but it doesn't update IT-272, despite seeming to be linked to it. How do I get the information to transfer to IT-272 or to IT-196 line 48?

The optimizer is for the federal. Follow these steps for claiming college expenses in NY:

    1. Open your return to NY
    2. Continue to You Just Finished Your New York Return
    3. Locate College Expenses
    4. Start/ Edit/ Review
    5. Select yes to paid tuition
    6. Answer student question -yes
    7. Enter information and expenses up to $10,000 per student

I've gone there and filled it out, but I also see that Form IT-196 line 48 references the College Tuition Qualified Expenses Optimization Worksheet -- yet I can't figure out which line in the worksheet it is referencing. I'd like to be able to view and validate whatever calculation is being made.

It is a worksheet so you can only see it if you view all forms, including worksheets. In the  desktop program, I was not given an option to change it but can manually in forms mode. This is what mine looks like from the program. The program decides which is better for you a credit or deduction and goes with it.

To print or view  your forms, including all worksheets:

    • In desktop, switch to Forms Mode.
    • For online:
      1. On the left side, select  Tax Tools
      2. Select Print center
      3. Select Print, save or preview this year's return
      4. If you have not paid, select pay now.
