Question

Part-time income from Indiana for CA resident

My daughter made only $186 in Indiana while at college last year. She's a CA resident. It looks like IN has a $1,000 threshold to file a state return. But she has a W2 from her school. I assume I need to enter the $186 for the federal return but do I need to enter any of the IN state info (state and local taxes) into TT if a state return is unnecessary?

Enter the W-2 as it is.   TurboTax will prepare an IN nonresident return, but you can delete it and not file it if there are no IN withholding on it to recoup.

Turns out TT didn't produce an IN return, so much simpler. It must have seen the amounts as trivial and below the minimum requirements.
