Hi,
I tried to use my Turbo Tax 2024 desktop version to file the tax extension, and I went through all the steps. After put in Virginia as the another state I have received income from the rental property, near to the last screen, Turbo Tax told me that: "Virginia has no income tax, so you don't need to file a state extension.". I believe this is an obvious mistake. Am I right? How to correct it?

Thanks
Wond

Yes. Virginia (VA) does have income tax, however an extension is not required.

  • Virginia law provides an automatic six-month filing extension for income tax returns. No application for extension is required. The extension is for filing the return not for payment of the tax; therefore, you must pay at least 90% of your tax by the due date, May 1. To make a payment of tentative tax, use Form 760IP.
