Question

Where can I see my tax deduction from my $10k contribution to a state-run Illinois 529 plan?

I'm a graduate student who contributed max single filing $10k to the Illinois Bright Start 529 program. Turbo Tax provided no visibility as to whether or not I received my tax break for it.

Contributions made to “Bright Start” and “Bright Directions” College Savings Programs and “College Illinois” Prepaid Tuition Program -go on IL Schedule M Other Additions and Subtractions for Individuals.

Total of all addition to income transfer to Form IL-1040, Line 3.

To report the contribution in TurboTax:

    1. Open your IL return
    2. Continue to the screen Here's the income that Illinois handles differently.
    3. Scroll down to Education
    4. Click Start next to College Savings and prepaid tuition plan contributions.
