Question

Why am I being forced to file a state return for Washington State?

I cannot remove Washington from my state taxes. If I click the "Trash" icon I get told I have to "Start Over". I don't need to start anything. Washington doesn't require me to file.  How is it this complicated. Just let me remove Washington from my state taxes. It is irrelevant.

Washington does have capital gains tax and also, there is a Working Families Tax Credit Application.   Do you have either of those?   What platform are you using?   TurboTax Online or desktop?

Same problem. Im a partial WA resident but Im not applying for WFTC. Using Desktop. It keeps forcing me to "finish" my WA even after I clicked on No for WFTC.

You can chose to delete the state return in desktop.  Follow these steps to delete a state return in TurboTax Desktop for Windows:

  1. With your return open in TurboTax, from the File menu, choose Remove State Return.
  2. Select the return you want to delete and then select Remove.
  3. Choose Yes to confirm.
