AD Military changed residence mid-year in 2024. Do we need to file Form 511NR?

Military member is retiring from the Army. We purchased a house in OK and changed residence midyear from GA. Turbo Tax is stating we need to file form 511NR. Is this necessary?

It depends; do you have reportable Georgia income? Make sure you have entered military status and the correct resident state in the Personal Info/my Info section of TurboTax. You have to mark the box that says Served in the US Armed Forces in 2024.

From a tax standpoint, your State of Legal Residency (SLR) is considered your "domicile" or "resident" state as long as you are on active duty. Even if you are stationed in another state, you’re still considered a resident of your SLR.
