How does the IRS calculate distance to an Army Reserve duty station?  Is it As the Crow Flies or actual driving distance?  I'm at 118 miles each way driving but As the Crow Flies distance is 89 miles.   I can't find any info on this at all!  thanks.

You will always use actual, on-the-road mileage.

For future reference, check with your base finance office. I know back in my day they maintained a list of "standard mileages" from surrounding locations to the base. For example, the "standard mileage" from the city center of Orlando to Jacksonville Naval Air Station shows 138 miles by the shortest route a commuter would be expected to take.  If I were to claim 200 miles, that would definitely raise flags. If I were to claim say, 150 miles then that's fine. That would just indicate that the area I was coming from was most likely 12 miles in a southerly or westerly direction from the city center.

You may even be able to find such charts on line now at the finance office's website.
