Federal Tax ID On 1099-R

The software will not let me entered the Federal ID number shown on my 1099-R. I can leave it blank but will I be able to E-File?

No, the payer ID must be entered. Many times deleting the form and re-entering will clear these issues.

Go back to the "Income" tab and "Edit" the 1099-R in question. Delete it. Then click "Add a 1099-R"

Be sure to select the right box for "Who gave you the 1099-R"; one of the government agencies or a financial institution.

One other thing to check...

IF it lets you enter the digits...but then says they're invalid........check how many digits there are...should be 9 of them ( Not including the hyphen).

Had a person the other day who received a 1099-R with only 8 digits.....either a misprint or a mis-formatted document from the issuing company/provider that has to be corrected at the issuing end.

This helped! Found out DFAS did not print the full Fed Tax ID on the 1099-R for some reason. Should have a 2 at the end. When I entered the extra digit (2) at the end of what they did provide everything worked as advertised.
