A military uniform is not a deduction on your tax return.  The miscellaneous itemized deduction category has been suspended through tax year 2025 with the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2018.  Miscellaneous itemized deductions includes deductions for unreimbursed employee job expenses which is where uniforms would fall.

If you are an armed forces reservist, there are some employee travel expenses that could be deducted for travel over 100 miles.

Here is IRS Publication 529 with more information on both topics if needed.

The Armed Forces Reserve travel expenses can be entered in the "Deductions & Credits" tab.

  1. Scroll down to "Employment Expenses"
  2. Show more
  3. "Start/revisit" "Job expenses for (W2) income

There you will be able to enter those expenses.
