Turbotax states that it does not apply to me

IL does require you to file and show the military income but it is listed as a subtraction so that it is not taxed.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go back to your federal entry of your W2.
  2. Edit
  3. Scroll through information, continue
  4. Do any of these uncommon situations apply to this w2?
  5. Mark that it is Active duty military w2
  6. Continue

What is your home of record? Illinois or another state?

If Illinois is your home of record, then you do indeed have to report your active pay to Illinois,

Please see IL Pub 102.

However, we have no idea of your actual situation so come back and tell us your home of record and where you are currently stationed.

My permanent home is Illinois.  I am stationed in Ft Riley Kansas.  I was understanding that ILlinois doesn’t tax military.  But it is showing that I owe taxes on my military pay ?
