Question

I am currently Military with my permanent address being in CO. I am stationed in ME. I purchased/registered a vehicle in ME and paid Sales Tax. How do I file this return?

I have filed for CO and ME Non Residency. I see the vehicle section when it does a smart check of my ME NR return however it never brings me to that section. I have CO as my state of residency and I lived in a house in ME (Renting). I had to purchase and register the vehicle in ME.

Please clarify the question you are asking. Is it about your ME non-resident return? Or claiming the sales tax you paid on the vehicle? Or something else?

You should not be filing a ME Nonresident tax return...unless you have actual off duty civilian income in ME....or work a Self-employed job in Maine while off-duty.

Buying and registering a vehicle in ME does not mean you must file a ME non-resident tax return....even owning a home there wouldn't require one either.
