Question

I'm active duty military and on my earnings statement it says that my state (WV) does not have income tax for military personnel. Yet I owe $800 on my state return?

If your State of Legal Residence is WV, then your military income may be subject to WV taxation if you spent more than 30 days of the tax year in WV.

Also, if you have source income from WV other than your military income (such as rents, royalties, etc.),
you may be subject to WV tax on that income.
