Question

(Married filing jointly, both AD Military with different State Residencies) My state is counting my wife's non-taxable income against my state return, how do I adjust?

I pay state income tax but should get it all back because my state doesn't tax income for Active Duty military. For some reason, I only get the full amount back if I claim non-resident, which is untrue. When I change my residency to Full-time, my wife's income (filed to a different state) turns into my state's taxable income and my state return gets cut.

OK, what are the two states that you two have as homes of record? And what state are you currently living/stationed in?

And is your wife's "non-taxable" income active duty pay or something else?

I appreciate your willingness to help, but I figured out the issue and was able to correct it. Still new to filing jointly and the dual-Mil always likes to throw a few curveballs in there. Thank you for your time!
