Military exemption for Kentucky

  • I filed for state of Kentucky tax return and paid owed taxes but I feel it was incorrect because exemption wasn’t taken in consideration for military

    If you are referring to the KY exemption for military retirement for military retirees who retired before 1 January 1998 or who have military service prior to 31 December 1997 then check your copy of your KY tax return and look for Schedule P (where the exemption amount would be figured) and Schedule M.  The pension exclusion flows to line 8 on form 740.  . 

     

    You will find the interview questions to determine your exemption amount in the KY state interview in the "Adjustments" section on the page titled "Government Pension".
