My husband is in the national guard, he made less then $10,000 this year, does he need to file taxes? it is a W-2

It depends.

 

If his income is under the filing requirement threshold for his filing status, he may not have to file.

However, be aware that if he has withholdings, it may make sense to file to get a refund on any of those income tax withholdings.
