Question

No option to sign state return without mock federal return for mfj federal, mfs state

I followed all the ridiculous steps to complete the MFJ federal, and then I had to do 3 mock mfs. I am told not to include the mock federal, however, when I print the state return, it includes the federal filing, which is where I have to sign. How am I supposed to 'not send the mock federal' when I have to in order to sign my state return?

Well, not perfectly clear what you are saying ...but...

When they (TTX) says to not send in the mock Federal....they mean to not send the mock MFS Federal to the "Feds" (i.e don't send to the IRS)......since you already filed MFJ-Federal to the IRS.

BUT...For sending in the MFS state forms to the state, many states require a copy of the paper Federal forms whenever paper-mailed state forms are filed.   So it is OK to send in the mock Federal MFS forms to the state along with the State MFS form.   The State MFS form is based on the Federal MFS equivalent, so they want to see that MFS Fed too.   That's why TTX should be printing out the Fed MFS forms when you printed yoru state MFS for mail-filing.
