It depends on what
is your spouse’s state of residence. Even
though your spouse may be stationed in Utah, that may not be your spouse’s
state of record. Utah does tax military
pay for a Utah resident, as you can read in the following link from Utah’s
website: Pub 57, Military Personnel

It is possible that you
are a Utah resident and your spouse is not.
This FAQ has more information: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4776822. This is
important because if you are a Utah
resident and your spouse is not, the Pub 57 reference above states that you may
file a Married Filing Separate return in Utah even if you file a Federal joint
return with your spouse. If you had no
income, you would not need to file a Utah return if your spouse’s state of
record is not Utah.
To ensure that TurboTax properly calculates
the correct state tax:
1.
Sign in to TurboTax Online, click take me to my return, thenpick up where I left off.
2.
Click on Wages
and Income, then Edit on your W-2
3.
Scroll through the screens until Do any of these uncommon situations
apply? Make sure the Active
Military Box is checked
Also, if your spouse’s state of record is not Utah, make sure that in the Personal
Info tab, in the question “Did you work
in another state…?” that you ensure your spouse’s state of record is in the
question and answer no to the
question (unless you are a Utah resident and worked in Utah)
