Do I have to file my taxes this year if I only made about 8,000 for the year, or can I wait until next year & file both years together?

You cannot ever file two years together.  Each tax year is separate and must be filed using the forms for the specific tax year in which you received the income.    Although you may not be "required" to file with $8000 of income, was any federal or state tax withheld from your paychecks?   If so, you can file to seek a refund of the amounts in box 2 and box 17 of your W-2.

Or....if you worked as an independent contractor---you are required to file if you make even $400.
