Refund Advance- credit karma closed account

Has this happened to anyone else?
I get a refund advance every year, never have had issues, today I went to check credit karma and it’s showing my account as closed. After half the day on the phone with turbo tax and credit karma they are telling me they closed my account THE SAME DAY I SET IT UP TO HAVE MY REFUND DEPOSITED INTO. Credit karma tells me they can see my $1000 refund advance in the account ?!? But cannot open the account back up for me or open me a new one for two weeks. They claim they will mail me a check but cannot give me any sort of confirmation number. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m genuinely concerned all my money has been lost to credit karma.

Just so everyone in this thread knows. You can call the irs to have them cut you a paper check. You have to ask them to cancel your direct deposit. I was told it can take up to 6 weeks from the date you filed and that the IRS received the return. When I called today he told me they don’t have access to the 2023 returns until February 16th so I’m gonna call back then. I’m in the same boat with everyone else here, I filed my taxes on the 18th I believe and they accepted my federal taxes on the 22 and then credit karma closed my account on the 25 I didn’t receive any email on November 20 like they said. I claim 4 children so you can imagine my frustration that credit karma will have access to that. Hoping that the irs doesn’t approve my return before the 16 so that when I call they can cancel the direct deposit and send the check out instead

They can't change it unless you prepaid the fees for turbotax and didn't get an advance. Irs has a third party routing and account number for turbotax that receives your refund first in order to collect their portion before sending to your account. Turbotax could in theory change it before it gets routed out to the actual account on your 1040 but I doubt they care as long as they get their money.

Wow...just wow! Spent the last 3 or 4 days on this no I know.

One thing to note...as I'm sure we have found out. If you paid turbotax out of your refund and got advance refund to credit karma the actual routing and account number is a third part bank that first receives the refund to then take their portion back before its sent to the actual account on your 1040. I called irs and they would have just mailed it directly but I couldn't confirm that information for them to actually do anything so basically TurboTax gets paid but we all have to wait as well as deal with the loss from the issues of the credit karma account being closed.

If you had your fees taken out of your refund, I've read that SBTG will mail you a check if the deposit is rejected. So it won't actually come from credit karma. I'm hoping this is the case. It makes sense considering they are sent the money first then they send it to whatever account listed. And if that amount is closed or whatever, they will automatically just cut the check. This makes me feel better knowing it's coming from SBTG bc I been reading that the checks from credit karma are bad and absolutely nowhere will cash them. You point get a check from credit karma for whatever was in your account when they closed it. WE NEED TO START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. I already filed a complaint with the BBB. I suggest everyone do so and call TurboTax and tell them the situation. So they can begin the process of dropping that **bleep** ass company, credit karma. Bums won't let us change our own information but credit karma has ZERO of my old addresses correct. Spelling and/or numbers all wrong. I think I know where I live and I should be able to change it my **bleep** self. Credit karma needs to go the **bleep** out of business.

I thought I was crazy! Between credit karma terrible customer service saying my account was closed due to missing info when they couldn't even tell me what was missing after having this account for 2 years. I had money in the account now waiting for a check in the mail with the remainer of my account and get told I have to wait for my refund to get mailed because the account its suppose to go into is no longer open. Really glad I'm not relying on my refund to survive or fix anything major but some people do! It's all bull and I will never be using credit karma again after this huge mess. Can't wait to receive my money in July because credit karma decided to pull some crap

Did the same thing on the 25 th and said wait two weeks only to see error message. I don’t know what’s wrong with the company or why the would close accounts right before tax season and / or have something in the app to let you know.

I was told to wait two weeks too and the Rep either couldn’t or they just refused to tell me what I was waiting two weeks for. This whole thing is just weird. I have a regular bank but I’ve used prepaid cards in the past and I have never been randomly asked to verify my information or my account will be closed. I could see saying your acct has been inactive for a year and so ur acct is being closed or something like that. It would have made more sense to have people verify when they eventually tried to log in especially now since it’s tax season and Credit Karma knows people will be using the accounts. I’m seeing that they are closing accounts that have money in them. It’s just crazy and an unethical practice.

Please file with Hr Block from now on I got my refund advance after trying with Karma to resolve issue , unfortunately they turbo tax has lost an almost 10 yr customer that recommended countless users now I will be redirecting to Hr block.

They did the same thing to me my taxes were due to be put in .y credit karma account closed now I'm screwed.

I’m assuming that my credit karma account was closed, because when I applied for a refund advance I had to open a new one, despite having deposited my tax check into credit karma last year.

this year my federal refund is set to be deposited into the account, with the correct account number.
But why is my state taxes set to go to my credit karma account that was closed ? Last year, my state didn’t even go to credit karma. I did not put those numbers on my return, turbo tax did.

I tried to contact credit karma but they sent me to tt…

then I contacted tt && they said that its out of their hands.
which is horrible, because they’re the ones who put in the account number. So I don’t understand why my federal && state taxes, that I filed at the same time, has different account numbers. The account number on my state taxes isn’t even the same one that was on my state from last year. It’s really frustrating

I'm not glad this happened to you but I'm glad to hear that someone else has a similar case I also had my refund sent to my credit karma money spent account and was not advised that they closed it two weeks before this because I didn't respond to an email something about they opened me and they wouldn't allow me to open a new one at first it took crazy hours trying to get someone on the phone I just can't believe that they're responsible for our checks and they have this kind of customer service on top of that they after two weeks after over a and they have this kind of customer service . Your week of constantly trying to get a hold of someone that could tell me something more than no I just couldn't open a new account and couldn't give me a reason finally I was able to open a new money spend account and they tell me that's my refund will be going to the account that's closed but then it will just bounce over to the new one I don't know what to believe anymore I'm just disgusted

It will not bounce to the new account it will be rejected and sent back to the IRS who will then send you a paper check so you’ll have to wait around 6 to 10 weeks after your deposit date for that check

Seems unethical if they already took the advance money out. You would think they would issue a check instead of returning it to the irs

My refund was just deposited into my account it says I got the notification that my federal refund was deposited into my account and it's not there I am one of the many whose account was closed and I opened up a new account and now there's nothing in my account but I got the notification saying it was deposited just now

From what I’ve read if you selected the closed account when you filed your tax return it will not automatically go into the new account they will mail you a check 🙁

I just sent an hour on chat with credit karma.OMG it's a freaking train wreck.i screen shot everything .My refund went to the closed account (the account that was closed the day I filed my return) after finally being allowed to open a new one I was assured my return would go to the new account because they couldn't open the old one again.i had no fees or any penalty for the account that was closed .tonight I was told that I might repeat I MIGHT GET A PAPER CHECK IN 5-8 DAYS .bull**bleep** I said that is not acceptable .you can't just take tax payers money and move it around and do as you wish .I told him there is O reason why my funds can't be moved to the new account or open old one.i am pissed beyond thinking paying turbo tax over 200$ ? I am trying to find. Way to make this go to the news it needs to hit the t.v
