help: cannot file because of schedule C error: employee credits for small businesses

I have been using Turbotax self-employed Online for over 5-year. I have no any issue to file tax before. However, this year (2024),  at the review step, I get the Schedule C error message "we're updating employee credits for small businesses and farms, please check back with us XXX." (the check back date is always 1 week later when I check every day)

I've transmitted my return to an agent with token number 1186278. Please let me know if there is a solution to this.

Thank you

We have confirmed the error message you see during the Review process is related to Form 8881 Employee Credits for Small Businesses and Farms. This form is now scheduled to be ready with the program updates on February 28, 2024. We recommend you wait until the next day to update TurboTax, then run Review again. The e-file hold should be released.

Please be aware that this is a new form, and our tech support team is working to ensure all returns with this form are accurate according to the IRS.

This was scheduled to be fixed today, February 20th. And now it’s delayed again. I’ve been ready to file for over 3 weeks now and the issue has been pushed out every week since I encountered it. Is there a confirmation that this is even needed? Can it be worked around? I’m in the same boat - have used Turbo Tax for years and never had an issue until this year.

TurboTax programmers are currently implementing some recent IRS changes for calculating employee credits for small businesses. Form 8881 relates to all businesses with employee wages. According to the Forms Availability Table, the estimated date of release is February 28, 2024. Because updates are released after business hours Pacific time, we recommend waiting until the next day to update TurboTax (if using Desktop) and run Review again. The hold on Schedule C should be resolved.

Hello. Is this for sure to be fixed by or on 28 February?

Please advise; exactly what the original poster has said is happening to me as well.  Every day that I check the return it keeps being pushed back to exactly one week away.  I will not be eligible for any additional tax credits with Form 8881, nor do I need to fill it out: so I need to be able to bypass this as soon as possible..    I am confused as to why a form that doesn't even apply to me is holding up my filing?

I'm in the same position. The date keeps pushing out. It's moved three times. Is there a real update?

Quickbooks is advertising an Early Bird Discount to file before 2/29 but due to their inability to allow for filing, there is no way to access this early bird filing this year. Please fix the schedule C issue so we can file our taxes for small businesses. And stop giving a 1 week bump out date from whenever the review is run. I work with a couple of different tax softwares and Turbotax is the only one that is giving this error to it's customers. Thanks.

I’m having this same issue! I’ve contacted support and spoke to two agents. One spoke to a senior advisor. The answer I was given was to just keep checking back.
move been ready to file for a week now but can’t get past this schedule c in order to e-file. Turbo Tax needs to get this done. At least give us some real information!

Twice this week the update date has changed. Now it is showing March 1, 2024. Can you please confirm a set date? I am stuck on the Review page not allowing the return to be submitted because of the Wages Paid Schedule C

It seems like EVERY time I check the date that Turbo Tax should have this issue fixed it keeps getting pushed further.... first it was 2/20/24, 2/24/24,2/27/24 and now 3/2/24!!

Are you actually working to have this fixed?! It's a form.... what's the hold up?

February 24, 2024

Same issue here.  I am a farm and tax filing deadline is March 1st.  TT suggests waiting till March 2nd.  Does this mean TT will foot the bill for penalties for filing late??!!

There seems to be some disconnect from upper management and some incompetent software coder.  The whole job of turbo tax is to have software for us to file taxes.  This is one big fail by Turbo Tax to do the one job we pay it to do.  It is really bad on management for not getting someone competent to make the software work.

I have the same problem and have been ready to file for weeks.  I found 3 forms for business credits that are still not available on turbotax, but none of them apply to my business.  I deleted them from my forms and still receive the message.  I spoke to two different representatives today.  The resolution I was given was that I'll just have to wait or file by paper.  I was also told that the error was due to an update needed to Schedule C, but Schedule C shows as ready for print and e-file on turbotax's form page here. You can also see the three business credit forms that aren't ready (Form 8881, Form 3800, and Form 3468) which now show a date of 3/6/24.  This is getting ridiculous.  At this point, I don't care which form is causing the error; just fix it.

I am having the same error and CA return is due 3/16. When will there be a fix to this?

February 26, 2024

As explained by a TurboTax Customer Service representative, the reason is there are a set of bills not yet finalized by Congress that are part of the current Fiscal Year budget.  These bills pertain to "Agriculture, Energy-Water, Military Construction-VA, and Transportation-HUD programs." Current deadline is March 1st for Congress to finalize (or enact another continuing resolution).

In other words, if they let us file now there is a chance we might need to re-file with a corrected Schedule C in another week or two.  That could happen even if you switch to another tax-filing service.

Refile? So what. Done it before and likely will again.
